| The Splittie From the original 1950s to late 1967 the Type 2 is known as the Splittie and is possibly the most collectable VW in the world and one of the most collectable regardless of make. |
| Lowlight This model from late 1967 to late 1972 is the next favourite to the Splittie-known as early Bay or Lowlight with the low turn signals and external front steps integrated into the curved bumper it is becoming a classic in its own right |
| Late Bay Created late 1967 with a few crossover models this was the best of the aircooled Type 2s. With disc brakes , better fittings and many variations this became possibly the most popular "people mover" in the world. Many are still used as daily drivers, work vehicles, poptop campers etc. |
| The Wedge T3/25 This was a big upgrade with new body , though still recognisable as a Kombi it introduced the Wasserboxer though some early ones were available with the aircooled engine. Some have also been retro-fitted with this type engine. |
